The Claxton Rattlesnake Roundup, sponsored by the Evans County Wildlife Club is held annually on the second weekend of March.
 
The Rattlesnake Roundup is a two-day festival, attracting 15,000 visitors. The event features snake handling demonstrations and educational programs, wildlife exhibits, turkey calling contest, over 100 arts and crafts vendors, food vendors, a grand parade, beauty queens, essay contest, 1 mile fun run, 5-K run, live entertainment, children’s games and activities and fun for all ages!
 
Festival hours are 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, and 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. Admission to the festival is $5, free to age 5 and under.
 
No pets are allowed inside the festival grounds.

Camping: The spacious Evans County Wildlife Club facility offers areas for RV camping with limited electrical hook-ups (no dumping stations and/or water hook-ups are available). Spaces are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Catfish Creek RV Campground (12532 Highway 301, Glennville) is located just 10 miles from Claxton on Highway 301 South, with full hook-ups.   Call (912) 654-2278 or (912) 654-3935 for information.    Brookwood RV Resort Park at Beaver Run, Metter, 14 miles from Claxton offers 28 acres of camping with full hook-ups. Call (912) 685-2594 for information. Parkwood RV Park, located on Highway 301 South in Statesboro, only 19 miles from Claxton offers full hook-ups and a host of other amenities. Contact Parkwood at (912) 681-3105 or www.parkwoodrv.com.   The Gordonia Alatamaha State Park in Reidsville is a short 14 miles to the west on Highway 280 and offers tent and RV sites. The George L.
