Welcome to Evans County, Georgia. Claxton, county-seat, is favorably located for industrial development. Major highways serving the city are U.S. Highway 301, which carries north and south traffic, and U.S. Highway 280, which carries traffic east and west. They intersect in the heart of downtown Claxton, providing easy access to Savannah, Statesboro, Brunswick, and Jacksonville, Florida. Interstate 16 is 11 miles from Claxton and Interstate 95 is 35 miles away. The city is served by Georgia Central Railway and the Claxton-Evans County Airport, a general aviation airport. The nearest commercial airport is the Hilton-Head/Savannah Airport, located 45 miles to the East. The port of Savannah is 45 miles away by rail and 50 miles by highway.
The Claxton-Evans County Industrial Development Authority was established in 1971. The IDA consists of a nine member volunteer board. Five board members are appointed by the county; 4 are appointed by the city to serve 4 year terms. Evans County is also a member of the 13 county Middle Coastal Unified Development Authority,
The 384 acre Industrial Park is located on U.S. Highway 280, 2 miles west of Claxton. All utilities (water, sewer, natural gas and electricity) are readily available throughout the Park. The Industrial Park is currently home to Georgia Pacific Corporation, South Atlantic Galvanizing, and Valmont/Newmark. Our newest addition is Pioneer Boats, that will begin operations in early 2008.
